Russia’s Lokomotiv (Yaroslavl) ice hockey team plane crashed

On 7th September 2011 shortly after taking off from the Tunoshna airport near the city of Yaroslavl a charted jet plane carrying players of the Russian ice hockey club Lokomotiv crashed. The team was heading to Minsk (Belarus) for their first match in KHL’s 2011/2012 season championship.

There were 45 persons aboard, only two are known to survive – one crew member and one ice hockey player.

National Ice Hockey Federation of the Republic of Moldova expresses sincere condolences to the families and friends of players, coaches and team members who were killed in the crash, as well as to all Lokomotiv fans.
